2D digitally drawn animation revealing the layers created to illustrate a stylized water element.
Guide layers for paths of negative space were laid out to establish the movement, followed by a pass of hand drawn suds around the circles on multiple layers.
This was then composited and remixed to both show and play with the structure of the piece.

Background
This work deconstructs the process of planning out a 2D hand drawn animation that depicts light reflecting on moving water. Guide layers for paths of negative space were laid out to establish the movement, followed by a pass of hand drawn suds around the circles on multiple layers. This was then composited and remixed to both show and play with the structure of the piece.
Concept
The work invites the viewer to observe the anime as the creator would, in carefully planned stages to create the desired effect of moving water as the video begins. As we look closer the structures disintegrate and lose cohesion. They are then free to reform and create new spaces, distinct and designated to the process of compositing.
