In January of 2017 Robert Cotnoir and Andrew Deitch, from the band Grapefruit Sound Lab, contacted me to help bring their vision for a music video to life. They wanted an homage to Pablo Ferro’s title sequence for the 1968 film “The Thomas Crown Affair” and needed to find someone with motion graphics experience. I approached the piece with respect to the original’s optical printing work, using Adobe After Effects to recreate the style. Robert Cotnoir had sketched out a storyboard and had collected hundreds of fine art images from free use sites, each with a specific personal meaning to him regarding the lyrics to the song. Under their close direction, I was able to bring their vision to life.
